Londoners are urged to work remotely during the Olympics

By: RHUB, Tue Sep 27th, 2011

UKs Minister Norman Baker has asked Londoners to change their approach to transportation during the Olympic Games that will take place in 2012. The Minister stated that commuters and businesses should take advantage of new technologies to reduce the number of people using the public transportation system mainly by working remotely and using video and web conferencing for meetings. The Games will be a once-in-a-generation test for both our transport system and our adaptability. As we edge ever closer to the Olympics hand-in-hand with new investment must go new solutions said Norman Baker. Its time to oil the creaking bike dig out the walking boots work how to use the video conferencing equipment and fire up the laptop gathering dust at the back of the cupboard the Minister added. On an average workday London sees 12 million trips being made on the public transport system and the Games organizers are expecting that during the Olympics an extra 3 million trips will be added to the number. UKs transports are hoping to reduce by 30% non-Olympics demand during the sporting event with the need of a larger reduction at certain stations and lines. Public transportation has already seen a £6.5 billion investment for upgrades and to extend the transport links. The transport network has received significant investment to ensure it is able to cope with the demand of Games time but we also need the assistance of London businesses to help everybody travel around the capital smoothly stated Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and Olympics. The Department for Transport is expecting to reduce its carbon footprint during the Olympics by 50% and between the 8 and 12 August 2011 will be testing alternative ways of working and travelling and is implementing a program to help businesses reduce commuting and business trips where remote working and remote conferencing services might play a big role. Remote working and remote conferencing services increase productivity and reduce costs and the carbon footprint. This perspective is leading for deployment of faster broadband services which is needed to take UKs businesses to the era of virtualization and the cloud. RHUBs 6-in-1 web conferencing and remote support appliance offers one of the best solutions available in the market. It is easy to deploy and requires no IT maintenance it is very secure and pays itself between 3 and 10 months.
